Project management is an essential business practice that focuses on the efficient utilisation of resources, manpower, tools and methodologies to ensure successful project completion.  In a business context, a project is any temporary endeavour undertaken with a specific outcome in mind.  Projects are characterised by their finite nature, meaning they always have a defined beginning and end.  As a result, there is also limited time for a project to be planned, managed and completed in a way that ensures all essential objectives are met.  Responsibility for all of the above falls within the remit of the project manager.  Often described as a facilitator of positive change for the business as a whole, project managers are accountable for all aspects of the project – including the performance of the project team and the final outcome of the initiative.
